Reaching Rural Villages with the Mobile Mental Health Clinic

The Mobile Mental Health Clinic is one of the methods utilized by THRIVEGulu to provide Pyscho-Social Support to survivors of conflict. Recently, our team drove two hours one way to reach Lukwir Village to provide mental health awareness and medication. These patients live in rural areas that are difficult to reach and often neglected. Upon our arrival, we were surprised to see the large number of people who came to get support from the clinic. Hundreds of people came throughout the day! The vast majority of these beneficiaries were women and children.

In addition to our team of professional counselors, we have several community partners who attend the clinics with our staff. These partners include a team of medical professionals to properly prescribe and disperse medications for the treatment of mental health conditions and malaria. The entire team continued to prove their dedication by staying in the village until after dark, using flashlights to attend to every person who needed support before they left. One beneficiary shared, “Today I’m overjoyed. My child got the medication he needed. I hope that this clinic doesn’t stop here and is extended to other communities as well.”

We continue to be grateful for the support of our donors who make it possible for our team to reach rural communities like Lukwir Village. With your generosity, you can help us reach more and make a greater impact in northern Uganda!
