Position: Literacy Project Assistant

Location: Gulu, Uganda

Reports to: Economic Empowerment Officer

Since 2010, THRIVE has supported Uganda’s healing from the traumatic events of the war. We tackle the psychological, economic, and educational impact left by Kony and the internal conflict.

Overview

The literacy Field Assistant ensures that THRIVE’s 25 groups progress through the literacy program.

Key Responsibilities

The literacy Assistant will:

  • Conduct frequent direct observation monitoring visits to the groups to check attendance, participation, quality of instruction, and literacy benchmarks
  • Coordinate the facilitators to ensure that the project is achieving its objectives
  • Contribute to development of work plans, log frames and budgets for the department
  • Collaborate with Empowerment Officer to ensure all targets in this project is achieved as per work plan and budget allocations
  • Assist Empowerment officer in organizing quarterly review meetings with facilitators to receive and provide feedback on how the program is progressing, to quickly respond to any problems or challenges, as well as to recognize successes
  • Monitor and support supervision visits and provide feedback to office
  • Write weekly, monthly and activity reports
  • Work with the Communications officer to document from time to time, success stories from the field
  • Perform any other duty as assigned

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor Degree in Education, Social sciences, development studies or equivalent
  • Training in Adult literacy an advantage
  • Good knowledge of Acoli and English both written and spoken is a must
  • Valid motorcycle license and ability to ride motorcycles is a must
  • Minimum of one year’s of experience implementing literacy projects
