In 2015, Jane joined Mon Yele Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA). Before she joined the group, Jane was struggling with her business. “I studied hair dressing and design before I became member of the group,” Jane said, “I started my own salon under a mango tree but no one was willing to use my services.” Through VSLA and the goal to make her business grow, Jane was able to start saving money. She also took a loan from her group to invest in her business. Jane explains, “I used part of money to buy hair lotions, house rent, chairs, and make a wall shelf to be organized to attract more customers. Many of my customers now call to book an appointment with me because I always plate their hair at fairly cheaper price and I don’t waste time.”
Within one-year, Jane has exceeded her goals from her business and is making a healthy profit! The income from Jane’s business helps her to take care of her three children by paying their school fees, providing food, buying clothing and contributing towards rent. Jane shares,“The loan from the group has enabled me to grow my capital. Today, I no longer cry for my friends to help me with money. In case of a family crisis for money, I am able to borrow from the group.”
