For our virtual chamber concert event on May 9th, we are excited to announce Ronny Feldman, Music Director of the Longwood Symphony Orchestra and cellist, will be performing alongside Elizabeth Morse, harpist. Ronny Feldman
Feldman joined the Longwood Symphony Orchestra as Music Director in July 2012 and also serves as Music Director of the Berkshire Symphony Orchestra. In addition to serving on the faculties of the New England Conservatory of Music and the Berklee College of Music, Feldman is Artist in Residence, Lecturer in Music, and Chamber Music Coordinator as a faculty member of Williams College.
Two-time winner of the League of American Orchestras’ ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming of Contemporary Music, Ronald Feldman has achieved critical acclaim for his work as a conductor and cellist. He has appeared as a guest conductor with major orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops Orchestra. After successful appearances as a guest conductor for three consecutive seasons at Symphony Hall and Tanglewood, Feldman assumed the post of Assistant Conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra.
He served as assistant to Boston Pops Principal Conductor and composer John Williams from 1989 to 1993. John Williams regarded Feldman as “a brilliant conductor who displays the best leadership qualities…and an outstandingly high level of musicianship that imbues his conducting style with strength, taste, and imagination.”
Feldman joined the Boston Symphony as a cellist at the age of 19 and played with the orchestra until 2001. He has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras. His many chamber music affiliations have included performances with the Boston Symphony Chamber Players, and Boston Conservatory Chamber Players. Other performances have included collaborations with cellist Yo-Yo Ma and pianist Emmanuel Ax.
Elizabeth Morse
Elizabeth Morse, principal harpist of the Berkshire Symphony and Artist Associate in Harp at Williams College, has been active throughout New England as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician and pedagogue. She is formerly principal harpist of the Rhode Island Philharmonic and assistant director of the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Harp Seminar. Ms. Morse is a graduate of Boston University School for the Arts where she studied with Lucile Lawrence.
At the age of 17 she gave her Boston debut at Jordan Hall with Gunther Schuller conducting Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp. At the 1973 Music Educators’ National Conference, representing the American Harp Society, she premiered the Concertino for Harp by Ernst von Dohnanyi.
Ms. Morse has played with the Boston Symphony, Boston Pops, John Williams and Friends at Ozawa Hall, The Pennsylvania Ballet, The Boston Chamber Music Society, Cantata Singers, and the Boston Conservatory Chamber Ensemble. Other solo appearances have been with the Boston Symphony Orchestrated Events, New England Philharmonic, MIT Chamber Players, and the International Music Festival of Las Vegas. Chamber music collaborations have included Boston Chamber Music Society, Boston Conservatory Chamber Players,and John Williams and Friends at Tanglewood’s Ozawa Hall. Ms. Morse has also performed frequently on National Public Radio.
