Family happy to receive essential items.

The ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan and South Sudan has led to a significant influx of South Sudanese refugees arriving at the Lokung Reception Center in the Palabek Refugee Settlement. In response to the urgent needs of these families, essential supplies are being distributed to support their well-being and dignity. This initiative is part of a consortium project implemented by THRIVEGulu, ZOA International, and UCOBAC, through funding support from Stichting Pharus.

To ensure that the basic needs of the new arrivals are met, a variety of essential items are distributed at the household level. These items include: blankets, bucket, mosquito nets, soap, plates and cups, sanitary pads, toothpastes etc.

The distribution process is carefully coordinated to ensure that each household receives the necessary supplies. Volunteers and staff from THRIVEGulu and ZOA International work tirelessly to organize the distribution in an orderly and efficient manner. Each family is registered and provided with a package that meets their specific needs.

“Today, my sister and I will sleep peacefully, as we now have soft mattresses, blankets to cover our bodies, mosquito nets to protect us from mosquito bites at night, and buckets and soap to wash our clothes. This is our first time to receive such items; thank you THRIVEGulu for the support,” says Akiki.

The provision of these essential supplies plays a critical role in improving the living conditions of the refugees. By addressing immediate needs, the project helps to alleviate some of the stress and uncertainty faced by these families as they seek safety and stability.

The distribution of essential supplies to South Sudanese refugees at the Lokung Reception Center is a vital component of the ongoing humanitarian response. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of THRIVEGulu and ZOA, many families are receiving the support they need to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
