Since 2010, THRIVEGulu has operated a holistic approach to support Uganda’s healing from the traumatic events of the war.
We endeavor to tackle the impact left by Kony and the internal conflict. THRIVEGulu helps families recover by focusing on three core areas, which together make up our approach to trauma healing.
Therapeutic support involves a wide range of activities that improve the well-being of survivors. This ranges from individual counseling and group therapy to Yoga and sports.
Since the founding of THRIVEGulu, we have sought to use storytelling as a way for individuals to start on the road to recovery and take control of their life story.
Through our women’s empowerment program, we can assist women in working their way out of poverty. Women are encouraged to come together to form accumulating savings and credit associations. Each member saves a small amount each week. Once the group has saved enough, they can make loans within the group.
The group decides on a low-interest rate, and any money earned is split among the participants. This access to easy and cheap capital allows women to improve their businesses.
Many abductees were taken at a very young age. It has led to a generation of Ugandans with only a few years of education. THRIVEGulu is teaching Ugandans how to use technology to improve their situation.
Education is an area that THRIVEGulu is committed to growing over the next few years. With your support, we hope to bring a literacy program in both the local language and English.
Northern Uganda faces many challenges. There are many organizations tackling a wide range of issues from poverty to improving access to clean water. THRIVEGulu is currently working with its partners to develop a strong referral system and avoid duplication of services.
THRIVEGulu empowers survivors of violence in post-conflict northern Uganda to reclaim their dignity and heal the invisible wounds of psychological trauma through integrated, holistic services which address mental health, financial self-reliance, and multigenerational literacy.
