Lucy has been with THRIVE since the beginning. Her personal journey with THRIVE is the positive culmination of many years of pain and struggle under Joseph Kony’s reign of terror throughout Northern Uganda. Lucy shares, “THRIVEGulu has changed my own life even as the organization has positively impacted the lives of my fellow people after the severe trauma we went through. We are survivors of the bush war in Northern Uganda, perpetrated by the Lord’s Resistance Army. None of us survivors could have ever imagined life could change. But now, thanks to THRIVE, there is a renewed sense of hope!”
Lucy holds a Senior Four “O” Level Certificate, as well as Certificates in First Aid and Environmental Health Science from Mulago Hospital and Medical School. Beyond the knowledge and experience she brings in the area of public health, Lucy is committed to the communities she serves. She takes pride in identifying the most vulnerable members in a community and inviting them to join THRIVE Groups. Accordingly, she works closely with THRIVEGulu’s Village Savings and Loan Associations to help group members improve practical business skills, like making liquid soap, candles and jewelry. She says, “I love to see individuals grow and proper through Income Generating Activities – when people are able to profit from doing things they enjoy, it is heart-warming.”
