In Need of Comfort and Trust

“She poured out her heart and said she is feeling better. She is depressed and is overwhelmed as one of the kids cries on her lap saying ‘Mummy, I am hungry.’” -Lucy, THRIVEGulu Counselor

Due to the far-reaching poverty in the region, our services are provided free of charge for all. This eliminates one of the many barriers for individuals and communities in Northern Uganda.  This counseling session happened after a referral from our Empowerment Team when they suspected a case of Gender-Based Violence after meeting this young woman.

With anonymity, this young woman has decided to share her story. She shares:

“All the people in my village know me as a poor person, stranded and unwanted by my husband. I have lost hope. I do not sleep and the sadness has been overwhelming.  I often think of abandoning my kids and ending my life. The father of my kids says he loves his children and that is why he stays around. But he does not provide for them. I am having trouble finding work while caring for 3 young children. Kind neighbors help me when they can, but my children have become beggars. I have come for counseling to comfort my heart. I have no one else I can trust or anyone to turn to.”

Your support provides counseling for thousands in need and helps individuals come out of the shadows of abuse.
