We worked with THRIVEGulu to establish our group in order to support vulnerable women in Layibi. Now we are saving together, and we were able to get goats for all of the members. We also have a trained peer counselor in our group, who can help us with our problems. We have also been participating in adult literacy classes to learn how to read and write in Acoli and English.
I got married when I was 14 years old, because both of my parents died and there was no one to continue to pay my school fees. My husband drinks a lot, and we would often fight. We have four children, and I joined Lubanga Miyo to save for their school fees. I want to keep my family strong, and the group gives me the support I need. I love being in the group because now I have new friends.
THRIVEGulu empowers survivors of violence in post-conflict northern Uganda to reclaim their dignity and heal the invisible wounds of psychological trauma through integrated, holistic services which address mental health, financial self-reliance, and multigenerational literacy.
