Filder (above) belongs to Lubanga Miyo – God Gives women’s group. She joined the group in 2012, and in the three years since has saved and taken out loans from the group to support her small business in the market and build a house. “I’m very thankful for THRIVEGulu as it has made me realized that we are not poor,” she says. “Before, we had no chance for savings and planning and this exactly what this project has taught us.”
She hopes that her story and the work of THRIVEGulu will be able to reach others and that they will be encouraged to join groups and work to improve their lives.
“My whole life has changed now. I want to share with my fellow women around this community how strong I am now. It was through saving that I was able to build my business on my own and also build a house. I have also saved enough money to pay for my daughter to start Senior School next year,” says Filder. She has two children, a girl and a boy. Filder dropped out from school in her 5th year of primary school when she was only 11 years old. She is determined to give both of her children a better future.
Filder is working hand in hand with her husband to take care of her children, and they share the family costs and duties at home. “My husband and I are getting along well today because he has seen how active I am in the group and he encouraged me to aim higher which has made me very happy.”
