We are pleased to welcome Salome Amuge as THRIVEGulu’s new Director in Uganda, the position recently vacated by Dora Single Alal who served THRIVE for 13 years. Salome comes to us from Caritas Switzerland and has over 12 years of experience with regional and international NGOs in both conflict and post-conflict urban and rural areas in Uganda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Kenya.
Salome is a leader with expertise in consortium and multi-sectoral program management, monitoring and evaluation, emergency programming, finance and budget management, people management, and operations support. She has led projects that deal with social protection, livelihood, water and sanitation, disaster, and conflict management in both emergency and development contexts. Salome holds a Master’s degree in Management Studies from the Uganda Management Institute, a Post-graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management from Gulu University, a Post-graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from Uganda Management Institute, and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Social Administration from the Uganda Christian University, along with several relevant certificates.
As THRIVE’s Country Director, Salome will directly supervise all Senior Managers, while establishing an organization-wide culture founded on the principles of trust, responsibility, empathy, and integrity. She will be accountable for all aspects of the projects in Uganda and ensure that organizational setup is adapted to the operational context. Salome will be the primary point of contact for all stakeholders stationed in Uganda, including governmental, medical, educational, NGO/CBO, and civil society.
Salome’s first official start date is June 1, 2025. I will onboard her together with our HR lead, and she will work closely with our Acting Country Director, Winifred Aciro, whom we truly appreciate; Winifred is currently heading the office and ensuring that all projects continue to run smoothly until Salome’s arrival.
