The Literacy Program
Many abductees were taken at a very young age. It has led to a generation of Ugandans with only a few years of education. THRIVEGulu is teaching Ugandans how to use technology to improve their situation.
Education is an area that THRIVEGulu is committed to growing over the next few years. With your support, we hope to bring a literacy program in both the local language and English.
Shortly after THRIVEGulu was established, it became evident that Literacy learning was vital to the future of war survivors since they had been deprived of an education growing up during the war.
In the last 6 years, you, the supporters of THRIVEGulu, have helped more than 1,500 women and men achieve basic literacy in both English and their native Acholi.
The THRIVEGulu Library & Resource Center will extend our literacy program from individual learning to family sharing and will help the entire community move beyond its lost opportunities toward a future with hope.
THRIVEGulu is uniquely situated to provide intergenerational literacy opportunities in post-conflict northern Uganda, where at least an entire generation has been deprived of an education.
Our mission is to build a functional library and resource center for the community. We need your help to make this dream a reality!
You can get involved by downloading and/or printing and sharing our poster.
THRIVEGulu empowers survivors of violence in post-conflict northern Uganda to reclaim their dignity and heal the invisible wounds of psychological trauma through integrated, holistic services which address mental health, financial self-reliance, and multigenerational literacy.
