We named our group Mother Daughter in honor of the ways that women suffer to take care of our families. We started saving together in the name of our children. We don’t always get the support we need from our husbands, but we know we can rely on ourselves and each other. We want to start a tailoring business together. Some of us have also been participating in THRIVEGulu’s group therapy program for more support.
I am a mother of four children, and my small business allows me to support my family. The other women in the group give me the strength to save and take care of my family. Now I want to borrow some money from the group to grow my business. I know that women can make a difference in the community if we come together with the same common interests.
THRIVEGulu empowers survivors of violence in post-conflict northern Uganda to reclaim their dignity and heal the invisible wounds of psychological trauma through integrated, holistic services which address mental health, financial self-reliance, and multigenerational literacy.
