We formed this group with THRIVEGulu to support vulnerable women in Layibi. It is like a new home to us- it is where we share, get new knowledge, and comfort one another. Last year we bought a bull together to slaughter and sell around the holidays. This year we worked together to make bricks, which we are getting ready to sell. We are also participating in THRIVEGulu’s literacy and group therapy programs.
I was among the first members of the group. I am elderly and it is difficult for me to work, but because of my savings in the group I am able to provide all the basic needs for my daughter’s children, who are under my care.
THRIVEGulu empowers survivors of violence in post-conflict northern Uganda to reclaim their dignity and heal the invisible wounds of psychological trauma through integrated, holistic services which address mental health, financial self-reliance, and multigenerational literacy.
