THRIVEGulu’s senior-most counselor is Christine. Before transitioning into counseling, Christine received advanced training in Education. She eventually went on to study Social Science at Makerere University in Kampala, where she began learning the skills that would help her become the skilled counselor she is today. Christine has completed a Certificate in Guidance Counseling from Makerere University’s Institute of Adult & Continuing Education and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management from Gulu University. She completed an intensive training program in trauma recovery offered by the Center for Victims of Torture (CVT).
Christine views her work with THRIVE as a calling: “As an organization, THRIVE is passionate about promoting sustainable mental health. I believe in this. I feel called to work with the disadvantaged, so that I can help lift them up!” Encountering many challenging cases and listening to heart-wrenching stories has made Christine into someone in whom clients trust. She helps individuals interpret their symptoms, so that they can work together towards positive solutions.
The one skill that Christine finds most important for doing counseling in Northern Uganda is empathy. It is, she says, “my personal commitment to others. The foundation of my work for THRIVE is hope for restoration through therapeutic support.”
