One of our priorities at THRIVEGulu is to continue our active involvement in community events regarding current issues facing women in Uganda. Each year, THRIVE participates in the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. It is a yearly international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls. The campaign begins on November 25th, which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.  And it ends on December 10th, Human Rights Day This year in Gulu, the theme for the campaign is: Act Now: Stop Teenage Pregnancy, Child and Forced Marriage.

The 16 Days campaign specifically aims to:

  1. Raise awareness at the local, national, regional and international levels
  2. Strengthen local and global networks
  3. Provide a forum for dialogue to share and develop strategies
  4. Advocate for action by Government, Local Councils, Parliament and other Actors
  5. Mobilize resources for action

THRIVEGulu strives to empower women in the community to speak out on the issues affecting them by facilitating and advocating for our women’s groups. During the event, the women had the opportunity to join other women around the world in raising their voices and speak about issues affecting them. THRIVE is proud to be an active participant in such an important event for the community and committed to supporting the women of Uganda to end gender-based violence.
